Discussion of the EU Digital Euro bill suspended

The development of European Union legislation to support the digital euro with the publication of the document on June 28 has been postponed.

According to EU officials, the bill was scheduled to be discussed and published at a meeting of the European Commission’s decision-making body on June 28. At the moment, the reason for the delay and the new date are not indicated.

At the same time, the ministers stressed “the importance of developing a compelling and clear narrative about what will be the added value of this development” in terms of changing the economy and citizens ‘ lives.

Irish Finance Minister Pascal Donohue added that ” in our institutions, ministers want to support this work, but it is important to see how we can further develop this narrative.”

The preliminary text prohibited banks from paying interest on digital euros, and merchants from charging fees for using them.
